About The University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate (UGSWD)

The University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate (UGSWD) is dedicated to promoting sports excellence, fitness, and holistic well-being within the University of Ghana community. Evolving from the former Amalgamated Sports Club and formally established as a Directorate in 2005, SWD has grown into a vibrant hub for competitive sports, recreation, and wellness programmes for students and staff.

In August 2024, the Directorate was rebranded to reflect a broader mandate—integrating physical activity, mental health, and lifestyle wellness into a comprehensive model of community well-being. The Directorate operates under the guidance of the University of Ghana Sports Advisory Board, chaired by the Registrar
